Are the stats on the members correct?

I'm still playin around on here trying to figure out all the features on Stock Buzz and I have noticed that it seems that the percentages are incorrect for some of the members stock picks. For example, there was a member who picked SID back in December when it was worth $29 or so. When you look at his % return it says something like -45% to now. But, if you look up SIDs chart it actually made good returns to date. I believe they are worth about $47.61 per share right now. How can the computer say he lost 45% of his investment? Thank you for your attention. Cheers!

I think they don't apply anything like corporate actions :stock splits etc. In fact my SID after stock split at that time showed up -100%.

The more time I spend on this site the less I like it. Very complicated, with too much useless/wrong information. I just keep logging in so I can see why other people are staying here, maybe I'm missing something?

Hmm... the site does not adjust for stock splits? Does it record cash dividends?

One thing I've noticed is that the community here logs on very few times a year (compared to other forums), as investors should. On the flipside, day trading is pretty much impossible due to how they update their prices each day (they don't). Some of the highest ranking members made a handful of stock picks years ago and haven't done anything since. Now, THAT's intriguing.

Yes, SocialPicks count splits and dividends. We are also working on experimenting different ranking algorithm to take account of more recent picks.

In my opinion, the basic compounding return formula is fine. It takes care of time. Besides, some people may just have a long time horizon, as in several years.

I was just mentioning the people who seemed to have made an account, choose a few stocks, and then never logged back on again.

Sorry for double posting, but this came as an afterthought. A very important afterthought that is the pinnacle of long-term investing.

Does this site compute returns as simple gains, or compounded? (i.e. a gain of 50% one year and 50% the next, is it an annual gain of 50% (simple) or 41.4% (compounded)?

from now on I will just point things out on this site, most of it just seems to be a scam. I checked 2 of todays top picks. they are micro cap stocks. That may be subject to manipulation!!!!!! says so right there. hopefully nobody is stupid enough to buy them!!!!!!

To Brady and Armin,

We do calculate events such as stock split. Unfortunately SID split event had slipped and we did not adjust accordingly. We have recently secured a better stock split calendar from our data provider and making a serious effort maintaining data integrity on SocialPicks.

If there is any concerns, please email us at help@socialpicks.com as we're always happy to hear from our users.

I understand that maintaining data integrity isn't an easy job and believe it will improve going forward.

Wow I didn't know this thread was still active. I'm happy to see everyone ringing in.
To Kevin,
It's not so much the calculation of the stock splits but rather just an error in the reporting. For instance, a few days ago I had 4 or 5 winning picks out of 10. But the screen said 2 I think. I guess it's possible I just dont understand how it ranks people. There were a few other things in the ranking that seemed off too.

Also, I have a few suggestions for the site if you don't mind. First, I think that the Discuss! area should be more of a traditional forum with sub-catagories so the discussions are a bit more sorted. Also, I think members who are inactive for over a year should be deactivated. I mean, some of the top members haven't been on since 2006. Kinda screws up people who are looking to add subscribers. My last suggestion is that the charts for the stock quotes page be bigger. Sometimes that line is hard to see! haha.
Anyways, I like this site. I think it's pretty useful. I just think it needs tweeking. PS. I'm sorry if my english is bad.
Cheers!
