Refiners being squeezed

VLO (and other refiners) have had their day. The "crack spread" is declining, or if not, holding constant. Reduced use of gasoline means reduced income for refiners.

it is amazing that the refiners arnt able to do more to influence either end of the crack spread.

the drop in crude could do really well for refiners as gas prices may stay up for a while

I wonder if this crude pullback will actually help the refiners or if the price of gas will just fall in line and the crack spread will stay negative. Another point is that refiners are required by law to produce boutique fuels during the summer but congress has a current bill that may change that, which would serious help their margins
