Over the past several months, retail has been among the areas hardest hit during the market's downturn. Clothing, electronics, furniture and department stores have all taken their licks.
Abercrombie & Fitch
While this clothing retailer's business is focused on two things whose opinions can change with the wind -- young people and the fashion industry -- the company's balance sheet is about as steady and stable as they come, which is why my Buffett-based model gives it high marks. Over the past decade, A&F's earnings per share have increased each year, rising from 96 cents to $5.20 during that period and showing the kind of strong, predictable earnings that Buffett likes to see.
