OAO Rostelecom, together with its subsidiaries, provides domestic and international long-distance telecommunications services to the government, businesses, and individuals in Russia. The company offers its services through ground and submarine cables, digital radio-relay lines, and satellites. As of December 31, 2007, its digital network comprised 45,405 kilometers, including 30,580 kilometers of fiber optic links (FOLs) and 14,825 kilometers of digital radio-relay lines. The company has international FOLs accessing Finland, Denmark, Turkey, Italy, Bulgaria, Japan, Korea, China, Estonia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Georgia, and Belarus. It provides switching and transmission infrastructure that connects the Russian domestic telecommunications trunk network with foreign networks and, in coordination with foreign telecommunications operators, facilitate the transmission of telecommunications traffic within Russia; and domestic long distance traffic. Rostelecom also offers other services, such as interconnection and voice traffic transit services, signaling traffic transit, data-based services for voice transmission, backbone Internet access services, interconnection and Internet protocol traffic transit services, virtual private network service, data center services, transit Europe-Asia service, domestic long-distance and international rent of channels, intelligent network services, televoting, and international roaming, as well as radio and television broadcasting services. The company was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Moscow, Russia. Rostelecom is a subsidiary of OAO Svyazinvest.
