Big companies doesn't disappear unless they going bankrupt so with a 20 % equity stake and 80 % govt they are still around....AIG lost 80 % of the business when the communists took over China in 1948.....:-) They could ebounce initially to $4 but in a later stage when the company buys out the govt the stockholders should be in good position - that would drive the price in later stages

except that the gov with still have some kind of control and judging how they screw up everything else I dont know if I want in

also at some point the gov is going to start selling the 80 percent of its stake which will really put a ceiling on the stock price

I thought about it - that when they sell that would put a pressure but I think that is so far ahead as 2010 - 2012 and then the landscape hopefully has changed.

David Walker (the former head of GAO) had said something like - what does govt know about insurance business that the AIG doesn't already know - so if the govt interfere they are doomed. I believe that the govt is busy dealing with everything else. One think I thought about --- SPITZER! Didn't Spitzer got rid of the old mgmt
at AIG?
