China-based solar product masker Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ.Nsadaq) recorded 50.6 million U.S. dollars of net losses within the fourth quarter of 2009 compared with 11.1 million U.S. dollars of net income in the previous quarter. Canadian Solar had 23.3 million U.S. dollars of inventory write-downs in this quarter against price drop of feedstock, work-in-process and finished solar modules in addition to 12.8 million U.S. dollars provision against doubtful accounts. Net revenues totaled 73 million U.S. dollars during this period in comparison with 252.4 million U.S. dollars of net revenues in the third quarter of 2008. Canadian Solar delivered 19.6 MW of shipment in the last quarter of 2008, bringing annual shipment up to 167.5 MW. Canadian Solar expects to realize a wafer-to-module processing cost of 0.6 US dollars/watt and polysilicon-to-module processing cost of 0.9 US dollars/watt by the end of first half of 2009. Moreover, Canadian Solar predicts to rake in 600-800 million U.S. dollars of net revenues and deliver 300-350 MW of shipment within 2009, according to the latest guidance. Now, about 262 MW of module sales has been ensured by sales contracts including 120 MW of orders for e-Modules.
