Alliance HealthCare Services, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides outpatient diagnostic imaging services and radiation oncology services in the United States. The companyÂ’s imaging services include magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for evaluating soft tissue and organs, including the brain, spinal cord, and other internal anatomy; and positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT), which detects the metabolic signal of cancer cells and provides image of the internal anatomy. Its radiation oncology services comprise conventional beam therapy, 3-D conformal radiation therapy, intensity modulated radiation therapy, image guided radiation therapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, low dose rate brachytherapy, and high dose rate brachytherapy for the treatment of cancer. Alliance HealthCare offers these services on a shared-service and full-time service basis, as well as through fixed-site imaging centers to hospitals and other healthcare providers. In addition, the company provides ancillary services consisting of marketing support, education, training, and billing assistance. AS of December 31, 2008, it had 505 diagnostic imaging and radiation oncology systems, including 301 MRI systems and 114 PET or PET/CT systems, and served approximately 1,000 clients in 46 states. Alliance HealthCare also operated 21 radiation oncology centers and stereotactic radiosurgery facilities. The company was formerly known as Alliance Imaging, Inc. and changed its name to Alliance HealthCare Services, Inc. in February 2009.
