Sun is acquiring tasteful choices in companies (such as MySQL) that will further its enterprise in the database market. It will catch up with companies such as Oracle in this field. In so doing, it will become highly profitable and become a very successful company. It is already known for its core product, Java, and its unrivaled server products.
MySQL and its other acquisitions that may be in the pipeline for 2008 (and how it will handle its database product acquisitions) will be very interesting. I think Sun will come out of the clouds with its head held high above Oracle, and the rest of the contenders, in the enterprise space willing and ready to compete (if not already whipping and slashing the heads off of its contenders).
