Commodities Correction Will Hurt Latin America

Sr. Analyst

The iShares S&P Latin America 40 Index Fund tracks the performance of a basket of shares of the the largest companies in Latin American. This ETF has been strong over the past 12 months gaining 50%. The economic growth of resource-rich Latin American countries are heavily dependent on strong commodity prices. Since commodities such as copper, oil, and silver have performed well, Latin America has been able to register high growth rates. However, this cannot be expected to continue since the US economy has showed signs of substantial cooling, which will soon affect China's export sector and its seemingly voracious appetite for commodities.
