I totally agree with Gene. Don't listen to market hysteria or the latest hot pick from an analyst learn the trade for yourself. I don't believe in diversification as this is an actuarial approach in which you are expecting to lose money and by diversifying your stocks you can minimize the probability of loss. They are valid comments and i believe the financial institutions should pay for dealing in such risky behaviour. All it comes down to is greed. With a $1000 value investing and fundamentals wont really doing anything for you. I don't mind Dan's recommendations of placing the cash in a fund, Vanguard are a good fund manager.
