So, uh, does anyone else think that the small-cap green energy stocks are looking a little frothy?

As I noted yesterday, the solar stocks in general have been rallying impressively, doubling off their March lows. But what strikes me this morning is how the whole green energy sector - in particular, small- and micro-cap names - have move dramatically higher in just the last few sessions.

Examples:

  • DayStar Technologies (DSTI), today is up 28 cents, or 26.7%, to $1.33. Since Friday, it is up 87%. Last month, the company said it was running out of cash and might for bankrupt. Also last month, the company’s CEO resigned, and it cut staff 30%.

  • Capstone Turbine (CPST) today is up 31 cents, or 42.2%, to $1.05. The company today said that its “liquid fueled microturbine has been successfully integrated into a Ford S-Max people carrier.”

  • Emcore (EMKR), a speculative solar play, today is up 11 cents, or 9.3%, to $1.29.

  • Evergreen Solar (ESLR) today is up 23 cents, or 9.2%, to $2.74; the stock this week is up 44% on no news.

  • Ascent Solar (ASTI) today is up 54 cents, or 7.4%, to $7.84; the stock is up 17% for the week on no substantive news.

  • Akeena Solar (AKNS) today is up 5 cents, or 2.8%, to $1.85; for the week the solar system installer’s shares are up 49% on no news.
