geneNICE Systems (NICE) is trading higher after the Israeli telecom security company announced a $55 million contract from an undisclosed government agency for - you’ll like this - “advanced telecom interception.” (What could be nicer than that!)

The contract starts in 2010 and will continue for 2-3 years, the company said.

In short, the NiceTrack equipment involved in the contract let’s you listen to other people’s phone calls. Or as the company puts it:

NiceTrack offers a unified set of solutions for the collection and analysis of both telephony and Internet data for law enforcement, intelligence and internal security organizations. The solution provides a complete suite of operational tools and applications, which ensure that meaningful, mission-critical information is delivered on time to security decision makers and operational staff, enabling them to detect threats and achieve a fast and appropriate response.

Nice, right?

NICE today is up $1.28, or 4.7%, to $28.46.
