Huh? UTStarcom (UTSI) shares this morning are skyrocketing for no obvious reason: the stock is up 70 cents, or 45.2%, to $2.25. Volume in the stock is nearly 4.6 million shares, or more than 8x the daily average turnover in the stock. It is the heaviest day of trading in the stock in more than a year.

I can find no news, analyst reports or other reasons for the move in the telecom equipment company’s shares. I have a request in for comment from the company; meanwhile, if you have a theory, please share with the class.
