TiVo (TIVO) today said it was awarded $200 million in sanctions against EchoStar (SATS) and Dish Network (DISH) for violation of a permanent injunction against violation of TiVo’s DVR patents. That brings total damages in the long-running case to about $400 million, plus attorneys fees. The company noted that the federal court judge overseeing the case said ruled that he “will entertain the award of enhanced sanctions” if EchoStar and DIsh are unsuccessful on appeal and continue to disregard the court’s orders.

But this doesn’t quite qualify as a total victory; TiVo had actually $1 billion in sanctions.

Dish and EchoStar said they were glad that the court rejected TiVo’s original request as too high, and also said it will continue to press an appeal.

In today’s trading:

  • TIVO is up 55 cents, or 5.6%, to $10.35.

  • DISH is up  92 cents, or 5.6%, to $17.22.

  • SATS is off a penny at $17.99.
