Nothing to say. Not much going on. Can't get any CEOs to comment. Too close to the end of the quarter. People are dismissive of Nucor (NYSE: NUE) (Cramer's Take), and happy...

Big companies doesn't disappear unless they going bankrupt so with a 20 % equity stake and 80 % govt they are still around....AIG lost 80 % of the business when the communists took over China in 1948.....:-) They could ebounce initially to $4 but in a later stage when the company buys out the govt the stockholders should be in good position - that would drive the price in later stages

The newly installed CEO Edward Liddy, full of piss and vinegar in his new job and experienced with AllState - this guy will pull AIG out of it's doldrums, kicking and screaming by it's corporate balls. His stated plans to sell off assets and focus on its strengths of property/casualty insurance and most important its Asian business sounds like a winner to me. The resignation in Singapore and the new blood it will bring in is a plus. The only minus, but short term is in Japan and that should be no more than a blip in the chart today or tomorrow. Oh... and Liddy isn't going to let a 'littl...

It's interesting that AIG gets it's bridge loan, buying time to help right itself, and it it selling down down down. Is it the interest rate or the terms that the goverment gave them?

I am reiterating my sell/short rec on AIG. The honeymoon glow from the seizure of FNM and FRE ended much faster than I expected. I figured the sector would rally for a month or more 10-30% but that has not happened. Considering you have just had the largest bailout in history we should have gotten a bounce. Instead we are seeing more bad news driving prices lower. CDS exposure is my real worry here. In my experience AIG has always been an agressive player in financial derivitives and I would be surprised indeed if their exposure to CDS isn't very very high. I think the price action o...

Recently, Tom Gallagher, an analyst from Credit Suisse lowered his earnings-per-share estimate and price target for American International Group (AIG), due to elevated losses from its derivatives business. According to Gallagher, "Virtually all the aforementioned indices have declined this quarter, with non-AAA (rated) being hit the hardest, declining between 3%-25%." <>This news bodes poorly for AIG's 3rd quarter GAAP earnings in that they will likely have to take additional mark to market losses on both their investment portfolios, and CDS/mortgage insurance portfolios. Keep in mind though >...

It isn't every day you get to shoot fish in a barrel but AIG is an obvious short in my opinion. I think the tell tell signs are their. I suspect they have a lot of hair in their portfolios and I don't just mean sub-prime. I think AIG has been an aggressive player in all sorts of complex securities and recently they made a move which baffled me. They raised equity capital and continued to pay their dividend! Why would they do that I wondered and the only thing I can come up with is this. Some investors buy securities for the income and they only hold securities that pay regular quarterl...
