May Day was gut wrenching for the brokerage business. The onslaught of free commission trading thanks to Web start ups like Zecco and now BankAmerica, spells TROUBLE for these commission junkies. Commissions per customer have been declining for years. This makes things muchworse. Now they are all scrambling rethinking how they do business. This is the stock that I would be avoiding.

Ameritrade is a high growth company with good earnings growth. I believe the weakness in the housing market will lead to increased money inflows to the stock market helping Ameritrade.

Baby boomers are just now hitting the age where investing is very, very imperative. - Throw in the numbers from alexa.com (a site that tracks web traffic) that shows that traffic in the last three months to etrade (among others) has dropped by 27% and traffic to ameritrade.com has increased by 19% and you have a pretty compelling picture of who's going to be in the winners circle.
