AsiaInfo Holdings is a microcap technology stock. They make money in three ways: selling software and solutions, service contracts, and third-party hardware. The first is by far, the largest part of their revenues. The final segment, hardware sales is small and diminishing, as ASIA's customers increasingly are going straight to the manufacturer for these things. They are the backbone of the Chinese telecom and have contracts with major players like China Mobile nad China Unicom. They are also involved in joint ventures with notable companies such as Siemens, Lenovo, Nokia, and Oracle....

Bookkeeping: Cutting AsiaInfo Holdings (ASIA) in Half on Earnings Spike
|
|
|
Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good - but always preferable to be both.
Mid month we cut back our position in AsiaInfo Holdings (ASIA) by half on a spike around $23. Since then as the stock has fallen back we've made some small purchases, including one this week in the $20s to get our position size back up - nothing big enough in any one batch to mention.
Since I had just added tot eh position, I did not have a stop loss in, so unlike quite a few other names yesterday we did not lower our exposure on a quick break of the 50 day moving average. Yesterday was so busy I also did not ...

"Our investment philosophy looks for companies with strong market positions and potential, accompanied by growth in fundamentals and supportive charts," explains emerging markets expert Paul Goodwin.

Bookkeeping: Some Sales

We have a very obvious gap formed yesterday morning that we have to ask "when" does it get filled? This morning Goldman Sachs (GS) obliterated analyst estimates... surely *I* for one was surprised (ahem). But everyone expected this and the stock did not surge for the 85th out of 93rd session in a row. Google (GOOG) is after the bell and we all know they will beat ... so will IBM - they almost always do in the game of "set expectations low, and beat it". But if everyone knows it are we going to continue to act surprised? Who knows.
As always its not the news but the reaction to the news...

Someone's Computer Goes Ballistic on AsiaInfo Holdings (ASIA); Gafisa (GFA) Continues to Fly

This feels so much like 1999; it's like an orgy of moves to the upside.
I am not sure what is going on today with AsiaInfo Holdings (ASIA) but it appears at around 10:15 AM someone's HAL9000 got very interested in the name. Volume in the first 75 minutes is already 140% of the daily average. Stock up 10%.

Gafisa (GFA) is on a tear the past 3 sessions, a computer went crazy first thing this morning as well here - just like ASIA we already have about 130% of a full day's volume in the first 75 minutes.
