Beacon Power (BCON) is my top stock pick for 2008. Beacon Power is on the verge of commercializing its “flywheel” technology and the company has a ton of positive catalysts going forward. I think this stock could very easily be a multibagger.

The next time your ac unit gives you cool air on a hot day it will probably come from one of these bus size batteries that provides a megawatt of energy. Energy Companies will find these attractive when they are adding grids or need to shut down one of their facilites.  Wind is the wave the future, no pun intended, and hopefully in your portfolio. At $1.34 per share, BCON is the one to pick.

In June, I wrote how intermittent power sources such as photovoltaics and wind would have to compete with baseload technologies such as IGCC "Clean Coal" and nuclear for capacity on the grid.  The key problem is that neither baseload technologies nor intermittent technologies are able to match themselves to the fluctuations of demand.  This creates a need for technologies which can fill the varying gaps between supply from these sources, and normal energy use. 

Becaon Power just announced that they have been found to be a compatible witht the requirements of the New York ISO - they now are ready to build their firsyt commercial facilities for frequency regulation in New York and CA - and via these two states will be able to address 25% of the US market for frequency regulation.
