BRCM will probably supply chips to the new version of the apple iPhone. This will bost their sales, especially if the iPhone sells well. Its a good double hitter if you invest in both Apple and BRCM.

Even if Apple does bad, BRCM still has a new chip out that will be most likely used in a new mobile device.

It’s time for semiconductor investors to play defense, according to Morgan Stanley’s Mark Lipacis.

This morning, Lipacis noted that days of inventory at both OEMs and distributors moved higher in the September quarter; in particular he notes that communications equipment OEMs have about 20% higher inventory than normal, while distributor inventories remain “above normal levels.” His advice is to move into semis with “more defensive characteristics.”

Qualcomm, Inc. (NASDAQ: QCOM), a famous name in the wireless industry whose colleagues include Broadcom Corporation (NASDAQ: BRCM), Texas Instruments Incorporated (NYSE: TXN), and Nokia Corporation (NYSE: NOK), reported earnings for the fourth quarter on Thursday. Apple (AAPL) is planning a significant cut in December quarter iPhone production, according to Friedman Billings Ramsey chip analyst Craig Berger.

Berger says his previous checks showed that iPhone production would be down about 10% in the quarter - but he now contends production could fall by more than 40% sequentially. He sees risks as a results for iPhone component suppliers, including Broadcom (BRCM), Marvell (MRVL) and Linear Technology (LLTC), among others.
