Qualcomm Wins U.K. Spectrum Auction; MediaFLO U.K.?

Qualcomm (QCOM) has reportedly won a 40 Mhz block of L-band spectrum at auction in the U.K. for $16.6 million.

Nomura’s Andrew Beswick wrote in a note this morning that the company may use the spectrum for a U.K. version of its MediaFLO mobile television broadcasting service. Beswick thinks the company could have the support of satellite broadcaster BSkyB (BSY) since “BSkyB owns all of the content that users will be willing to pay for and has already tested MediaFLO with good results.”

QCOM today is up 85 cents, or 1.8%, at $47.75.
