Shares of The Blackstone Group L.P. (BX) have had more than their share of volatility since pricing their IPO at $31.00 in June of 2007. At the time, the deal was surrounded by criticism as Stephen Schwarzman the CEO pocketed one of the largest windfall profits in business history (not to mention the fact that [...]

Blackstone (BX) is quite possibly one of the most misunderstood companies trading on the US exchanges. The company is listed as a “global alternative asset manager,” but few people adequately grasp the manner in which the company creates value for shareholders. Reported earnings do very little to paint a picture of shareholder value as the [...]

Blackstone is a solid asset management group with a proven track record. It has felt the sting of the subprime mortgage crisis and missed a quarterly finance projection, but will likely rebound back in the long run.

<> Here are daily bar charts of two of the companies whose principal activites are fueling the private equity buyout boom which has fueled the current bull market, Goldman Sachs and the Blackstone Group. In the last Tale of the Tape I said that I thought GS was about to break above resistance at 233 and move to its next upside target. Instead the reaction from the 233 level has continued and I think that GS will drop to 200 or so before its bull market resumes. I still think that the 250 level will be seen later this year. <> The Blackstone G>>...

BX closed a little off of its all time low since its IPO. Although it has fallen below its original IPO it is undervalued right now. BX is a very well run company and will in time rise. This is an excellent time to get ahold of this company's stock. It is far from a damaged company, the only thing that is damaged is the stocks, and those are simply undervalued. So go ahead and do a buy order of 27 for BX, it will come back around soon enough. Look for BX as a long-term investment.

Flight-to-Safety Bid Leaves Treasuries, Pushes Yields Higher

As I suspected, there wasn't a hint of terrorist activity over the July 4th holiday. So the bid that had been in the Treasury market is waning, and that is helping push bond yields higher. The 10-year is currently near 5.10%. Oil is also trading higher, pushing above $72. On the plus side, earnings for the energy complex should be strong again. On the negative side, the combination of higher oil and higher bond yields will likely take some of the wind out of the sail of the stock market. There was more M&A activity, with Blackstone (BX) making a $26 billion bid...
