We all know we are overstored in this country and over-restauranted. There are tons of players -- so many that the competition got too hard. Now they collapse. That Uno might miss a payment, that Bennigan's and S...

Circuit City, Almost To Zero

Circuit City tumbled to all new lows today, down 21.26% as the
market got scared about an upcoming meeting and views that their earnings will
be terrible. Goldman Sachs sent shivers through the spines of investors on Monday
when they predicted that retailers selling non-essentials would have bad
quarters due to the difficult and cash strapped times for consumers.

4/14 - "At $6, this (deal) values CC at an EV/sales of 0.06x on just reported FY08 results. This compares to the hardline average of 0.57x...CC did not generate positive
EPS of EBITDA in FY08, and we do not have it turning positive in at least the next two years, so traditional valuation metrics are difficult."
"With Blockbuster having 7x as many stores as CC, we believe this implies that 90% of CC stores have 7 blockbusters within 5 miles. Why then would a consumer pass by one of these options to go to a Circuit City store?...Similarly, we do not believe that customers shopping at a Block...

From a Canadian perspective, I think CC did a horrible thing by taking over Radio Shack, which had such a small part of the electronics industry in Canada in the first place. Though they are sort of niched into various electronics (i.e. wires, and all that jazz) I don't see them succeeding...especially during the Holidays. Best Buy > Futureshop > CC

Now seriously...if U were to walk in to a Circuit City store, and they had a 1x1 sq foot area in their store FOR SALE at less than $5...will U not buy it? Further if the sign said "not only will U own that 1x1 square foot in the store, but will also share in whatever profits were generated by items sold in that 1 sq. foot area"...will U not just snap up that chunk of primo real estate ? Forgive my caveman analysis, but I don't see how buying a share of Circuit City at less than the price of a Mocha Latte Grande is any different ? <> I know CC shot itself>...

Electronic sales will continue to rise. For every loser in the world that is destroying the American banking system there are 52 winners that are standing on their own two feet perfectly able to push forward. When the country is bent on saving the criminal fraudstar of the mortgage industry, that is the last place you want your money. But money will flow from the intentions of those control American tax payer dollars towards those that don't need the help. This translates to toybuying time for adults.

In real life I bought to early at $8.35. Thank God for that 20% rally last week. Today it's down over 5% on profit taking. Circut City sells the type of toys people buy for their self or their whole families. We currrently have three events going on in the country. 1) talk of a recession 2) large corporate earnings 3) a scared work force The talks of a recession always sensible shopping for love ones. The large corporate earnings give employers the power to show their support towards their employees their concern that fear will drive them to leave. <> This>...
