I bought 200 shares of CF at $152.86. This is a trend pullback setup. The stock has been a consistent buy on pullbacks. My stop is under the 50 day moving average, with a target at old highs.
While I am bearish on commodities in general and see a lot of topping patterns forming, ag related stocks have been holding up well.

Long time readers will know this is about the 678,211,121st (give or take) time I've cut back the fertilizer names as they break support at the 50 day moving average, only to reverse on me within days. [Jul 7: Cutting Some Fertilizer Exposure] I even wrote in that entry
Historically you want to buy them when they touch the 50 day moving average since they bounce, but with the market acting so poorly we could get some washout action.
So ONCE AGAIN - I am repeating the same pattern, and with egg on face buying back what I sold - luckily I sold right near support so we are paying almost the sam...

CF Industries: A Fertilizer Company That Doesn't Stink

I was on Fox Business Network’s Happy Hour show last night. Co-host Cody Willard and I discussed the agricultural sector. Cody peppered me with questions about the sector, injecting his opinions that the sector may itself be overgrown. My response was that I believe that seed companies like Monsanto (MON) are too richly valued and do not make compelling investments at this juncture. For the record, I have traded in and out of MON the past one or two years but have no positions at the current time.

The agriculture bull market is in full swing and the prospects for the industry keep growing stronger. Agriculture is entrenched in supporting the basic needs of humans and is vital to the sustainability of a growing population. In fact, 45% of the world's workers are employed in agriculture. Recently, prices for crops have skyrocketed as farmers produced less food last year than was consumed, and stockpiles have been drawn down to 30-year lows. <>The primary demand driver has come from emerging markets including China and India as consumers emerge from poverty and move to a protein-rich die>...

earnings... <!--more-->before we get to that, first a quick note on the market. <>S&P1400 remains a ceiling we need to get above to get fully bullish.S&P 1350 is the floor; below that we turn into bears. So in between(where we are now) we are a bit ambivalent, and for now remain rangebound as we have been for a while. The market does continue to shrugoff bad news so it would appear up is the more approximate short termdirection, especially if we get this "rotation" I spoke about - theleadership in this market has been so narro>...

Fertilizer producers and
distributors are in a very real bull market trend at this time as one of the
only industries to thrive in the current environment.<!--more--> Two of the companies in
this sector hit new 52 week highs early last week: Mosaic (MOS) and CF Industries
(CF). I am hesitant to put a large portion of a portfolio into one sector, as
Bulk Shippers looked great for a period last year and then collapsed, but the
fertilizer companies look too attractive at this time to not be a little
overweight on them.

On April 4, 2008 MOS will report. This is what they will say.... "The previous quarter was a record breaking quarter for both revenue and profits. We see this continuing through 2008 and are raising our sales projections for 2009." <> So why should you dump the fertilizers? Nitrates, phosphates, and potash are all different animals. Each and every year the percent of nitrates imported into the country rises. Each and every year the percent of nitrates exported out of the country drops. the reason is because natural gas prices control production costs. As tiny islands like Trin><>><>><>>...
