Contract Manufacturers Not Going Broke, Cowen Says

The contract electronics manufacturers are not going bust.

Cowen’s Louis Miscioscia made that point in a research note on the group this morning. He notes that many of the companies in the sector - which includes Jabil (JBL), Flextronics (FLEX), Sanmina-SCI (SANM) and Celestica (CLS) - are priced as if they are going out of business. But he says none are actually in financial peril.

Flextronics Shrs Plunge; Sanmina, Celestica Also Crumble; Report All Three Companies Losing Alcatel Business

If the world is going to cut back buying PCs, cell phones and all other things electronic, that is an obvious problem for the contract electronics manufacturers, including Flextronics (FLEX), Sanmina-SCI (SANM) and Celestica (CLS). That is not exactly a revelation. But investors are selling the stocks this week as if they just figured this out.

Celestica Jumps On Strong Q3, Pair Of Upgrades

Celestica (CLS) shares are sharply higher this morning following a strong third-quarter earnings report and some enthusiastic comments from the Street.

For the quarter, the contract electronics manufacturer posted revenue of $2.031 billion and adjusted profits of 24 cents a share, beating the Street at $1.97 billion and 19 cents. Gross margin jumped to 7.4% from 5.8% a year earlier; operating margin improved to 3.2%, from 2.3%.
