Cogent Rises on In-Line Q2; Rev $31.8M, EPS 10 Cents

Shares of fingerprint and security technology vendor Cogent (COGT) are rising in the aftermarket following the company’s announcement of Q2 revenue and EPS in line with expectations.

Revenue in Q2 rose 26%, year over year, to $31.8 million, yielding profit, excluding some costs, of 10 cents per share. That compares to an average estimate of $32.44 million and 10 cents.

The company added $24 million to cash to end the quarter with $530.5 million in cash and investments.

Shares rose 52 cents, or 4.6%, to $11.83 after falling 2.3% during the regular session.

Cogent: Lots of Growth in a Slowing Economy

Very few stocks out there can say that they are sporting growth in earnings, sales, and its stock price right now. However, Cogent (COGT) can do that, as this automated fingerprinting identification systems firm to Government, Law Enforcement, and other organizations not only has demand for its products but demand for its stock.

When it comes to the fundamentals, there is definitely a turnaround going on as the most recent EPS for the September 2008 quarter came in with a 180% increase, and on top of that, the sales growth for the same quarter turned around into a 56% increase.
