"Thanks to rising inflation and unemployment, coupled with a beaten-up economy, many retailers are braced for a harsh new reality this holiday season.
"Consumers have much tighter budgets and are cutting back on whatever they can. And that's where some 'one-stop' retailers like Costco can really take advantage.
Even in hard times people don't stop buying. They may re-evaluate how they spend and they may look for alternate ways to conserve but they don't stop shopping. Most consumers instead come to the conclusion that they need to shop smarter and the warehouse outlets like Costco offer an opportunity for most folks to feel like they are shopping smarter. Couple this with falling gas prices and we get a little breathing room, which usually stimulates a favorable perception, which then leads to more buying.
I am recommending the sell of the retailing sector. Why? The reason is simple, no one is buying anything right now. When was the last time you heard of a friend, neighbor, or colleague bought a new car? I tell you that it is obvious all over America (if not the world) put discretionary spending on perma hold a couple of weeks ago. You can rest assured that there isn't a retailer in America (even Walmart) that will have a great quarter.
Ever since Bush went on prime time consequences..... the retail market has come to a screeching halt that is only slightly less frozen than the cr
No doubt, this week has made it more and more difficult to say anyone should buy stocks at the moment. Even in good, solid, dividend-paying companies. Many analysts and pundits have recommended investors to sell and stay away from the stock market for a while as they don't see a bottom yet, only mo...
"I've always been a big fan of putting into the market on a regular basis regardless of what is happening in the overall market," explains Chuck Carlson, long considered one of the advisory industry's leading experts on dividend reinvestment plans.

For the morbidly obese (BMI > 40), liposuction is not really an option. But for a much broader set of women – those with fat deposits in ‘problem areas’ that respond poorly to diet and exercise – liposuction is a perfect fit.
And if you’re going the lipo route, one of the best options out there is Smartlipo MPX by Cynosure (CYNO). Cynosure, a developer of a broad array of laser-based aesthetic systems, received a CE Mark for Smartlipo this week.
TheStreet.com's Jim Cramer says these stocks will be taken killed today, and attentive investors can get them on the cheap.
Oh my, Costco (NASDAQ: COST) (Cramer's Take). I didn't expect that one. That's the best -- it's a shocker. I can't recall how many years it has been since I have seen the words "well below" and "Costco" together.
You can see how it happened: Costco held out. They didn't raise price. Almost everyone else is raising price and many are...

Is Oil Spoiled? Baker Hughes (BHI), Transocean (RIG)
Oil fell nearly 4% last week to $127. The group wondered if oil’s rally is finally over and if the commodity could drop to $120 in the coming week. Guy Adami thinks next week will be the biggest week for commodities in years and expects a significant drop in crude and gold. However, he doesn’t think stocks will necessarily rise on oil’s fall. Macke doesn’t believe oil will necessarily go lower, but action in the commodity will be significant. He adds he is a seller of the S&P with a t

"Finding its way onto the short-term bullish list is discount retailer Costco Wholesale (NASDAQ: COST), our 'focus stock of the week'," says Chris Johnson in his contrarian advisor service, Insightful Investor.
"The warehouse giant is currently seeing a positive mix of technical strength along with growing pessimism that makes it a potential outperformer. Costco is one company that has maintained a level of demand not seen throughout the bulk of the retailing sector.
"COST's core business, which caters to small businesses and ho
...I finally stepped foot into a Costco store this week. I was impressed with how friendly the staff was and how well the store was laid out. Below are some brief observations.
All merchandise is sold in bulk. Customers spend a significant amount of money each time they visit the store. Costco has high inventory turnover. Therefore, Costco is able to collect revenue from the sale of inventory before they have to pay suppliers.
Only American Express, cash, or checks are accepted as tender. Costco has bypassed the high credit card fees charged by Visa and Mastercard (MA).
Merchandise is plac...
