Hello Friends! A quick update on my Commscope (CTV) purchase. The stock really seemed to be out of steam today and with this oversized purchase sitting in my portfolio, I decided to sell 1/2 of the position, 300 shares, which I sold at $45.86. This was a loss of $(.51)/share or (1.1)% since purchase. I am still learning. <> In retrospect the biggest weakness in the Commscope purchase is not about the fundamentals which still look strong. It is just technically, the stock is fighting for support, so to speak, needing to move higher to confirm the resumption of a bullish move >...

Seeing Flat Carrier Spend, Baird Downgrades ALU, JNPR, TLAB, CTV

Seeing sequentially flat carrier spending in the third quarter, Robert W. Baird analyst Kenneth Muth this morning downgraded his ratings on Alcatel-Lucent (ALU), Juniper (JNPR), Tellabs (TLAB) and CommScope (CTV), all to Hold from Outperform. “While we expect these stocks to hit Q3 Street estimates,” he writes, “we see limited upside to revenue and EPS and recommend taking profits given the expansion of valuations and elevated 2010 expectations. <>Muth notes that the stocks in the sector on average are up 77% year to date, more than twice the gain on the Nasdaq Composite. CommScope Jumps 5% on Debt Restructuring

<>Billion-dollar (market cap) telecom equipment supplier CommScope (CTV) is up 70 cents, or 5.23%, at $14.09 after the company announced this morning it will make a prepayment on its 1% senior subordinated loans due 2024. CommScope had $200 million of the notes as of the end of the most recent quarter, but it still has another $1.8 billion or so of debt on the books and roughly $500 million, as of its most recent filing. Part of what’s no doubt juicing the stock is the fact that the terms of the loans have been revised to allow the company a lower the amount it needs to have in cash flow to><><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />>>< />...

Mid-Year Picks and Pans From Barron's Roundtable
Barron's magazine returns to its 11 Roundtable participants, who weigh-in with their mid-year thoughts, and updated stock picks (see parts II and III). Bill Gross <> Tepid growth should keep the Fed from hiking rates despite relatively high inflation. Foreign reserves, bolstered by another $500B in oil money, will continue propping up equity prices -- because they're not buying bonds. <>He likes: Fairpoint Communications (FRP), which acquired substantial properties from Verizon (VZ).
