These days it is hard for anyone to be credible when they say they know what is going to happen next. I am no different. I have a view and for now it is working but that doesn't mean it will tomorrow. I am happy to tell everyone what I think and they are free to agree or disagree. My premise is a simple one but it isn't a happy one. So you may sleep better if you just hit the delete key now. In my view, the problem we all face is a big one. The US like the rest of the world is over leveraged. As anyone who has ever lost their butts trading stocks on margin knows when times are great l...

I think Cablevision is a smart buy. After years of being run like their private little piggy bank the Dolans are finally going to be held accountable by one very smart and shrewd investor, Phil Falcone. Falcone has been one of the star hedge fund performers for the last several years. Phil Falcone is the senior portfolio manager and strategist at Harbinger Capital. The long and the short of it is Falcone is a moneymaker and if you want to invest with smart money you can't do any better than Phil. Cablevision (CVC) shares received a modest lift today from Morgan Stanley analyst Benjamin Swinburne, who this morning moved his rating on the stock to Oveweight from Equal Weight, while lifting his stance on the cable and satellite sector overall to In Line from Cautious. Swinburne gave three reasons for his more bullish stance on the sector: <><>He is bullish on residential data prices, “due to a stable competitive environment and rising usage.” Swinburne notes that Comcast recently pushed through a $2 hike in cable modem rental fees; while Canada-based Shaw raised core data prices by $2 (Canad><><>>><>>><>><>><><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />><>< />>>< />...

Filed under: Stocks to Buy It looks like Cablevision Systems Corporation (NYSE: CVC) is starting to get-it-in-gear. Hence, I'm reiterating my Buy rating for CVC, first recommended on May 29, 2009 at a price of $19.03. If you purchased CVC then, you're up about 30%.
Even ignoring the potential spin-off of sports arena Madison Square Garden, Cablevision's positives have always been compelling: fifth-largest cable t.v. operator (about 10.4 million revenue generating units), with a strong presence in a lucrative market (New York City area, 3.1 cable t.v. subscribers); included in that are about ...
