Dolby has a fantastic history of churning out free cash flow. With an ROE of 22% and OM of 44% it's no wonder. They have a perfect business model, able to make transitions easily and piggy-back on any of the latest technologies that do audio output. What's more, even during recessions and economic downturns they have such a well-placed business strategy that they manage to grow profits either way. For example: The past 52 weeks have seen a hard decrease in the overall market, with the SP 500, even after the last month's run-up, trading a discount of over 10% compare...

Hello Friends! Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting my blog, Stock Picks Bob's Advice ! As always, please remember that I am an amateur investor, so please remember to consult with your professional investment advisers prior to making any investment decisions based on information on this website. <> I am continuing to work on a strategy to trade stocks on very short-term basis and also manage my underlying trading account in response to market action. I have allowed myself a single position for a "trade" with the strategy of buying a large position, which for me might be $25>...

Does anyone know why the recent sell off? Was it the morgan stanley downgrade........right before earnings----giving us a buy opportunity? In the IBD 100, it has gone up to number 17 from 40something. HDTV is a fact, it's not going away. US mandates it in February 2009. All my co-workers have bought and are buying huge HDTVs, then buying blue ray players, and antennas, and HD dvds, and everyone is carrying a new multimedia laptop. The fundamentals are in place. Perhaps it's an insider that tipped off the market before earnings to sell off before a blowout quarter. Did th...

As I have written many times, there are probably two broad processes that are required to invest successfully. The first is identifying the stocks that belong in a successful investment account and the second is managing those stocks. I spend most of the entries discussing my ideas about the first and also share with you my success at implementing the second. I hope that you all find this helpful. <> While some investment letters seem to pull names out of the air, I try very hard to explain my own philosophy and how I arrived at these stocks. Time will tell if this approach will be succ>...

Dolby Labs: A play on growth in consumer electronics

Pricing strength in consumer electronics have been non-existent for as long as I can remember, so I would dare not touch any such manufacturers. Besides, it's hard to invent a cool new thing and then manufacture it at a price point that's attractive to consumers. All these means ugly margins, inconsistent returns on invested capital, and virtual no free cash flow. All told, these companies lack any competitive advantages. But there's got to be a way to play the growth in plasma TVs, Hi-Def DVD players, X-Box's and PS3's. Dolby Labs is the ticket. They develop audio and surround sound...

Every high tech HD/dvd/PC, audio product has dolby in it. Dolby licenses its products. They have virutally no competition. As more and more HD products are sold, and as more and more PCs are sold, Dolby makes more money. Buy it at $32, ride it to $40 easy during the tech season (through the end of the year). Lets not forget: more and more analysts are beginning to cover this stock and upgrade it.
