FSLR: Bull or Bear?
First Solar: Profitable sun worship
FSLR

Filed under: Stocks to Buy Generally, my bias is toward large-cap companies with a demonstrated business model. In a nutshell, "experimental" business models need not apply. However, every once in a while I make an exception, and First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR) is one. Here's why: In addition to growth potential for its proprietary thin film semiconductor solar module technology, First Solar has a building macroeconomic tailwind in the bottoming U.S./global recession and dawning recovery. The First Call FY2009/FY2010 EPS estimates for FSLR are $7.18 to $8.72. <><>Continue reading <>First Solar: Profitabl>>>...

The downside reward is much greater now that the stock is up 24% today. The upside risk is lower. Long term, FSLR sells a commodity product whose margins will come down due to competitive pressure. Margin risk shouldn't be underestimated in this stock, since current margins are fat enough to invite plenty of different types of competition.

The advisory panelist for The Oxford Club explains, "Seventy-five years after Roosevelt's inauguration, I think we will soon see President Obama get the ball rolling on his version of the New Deal, focused on two very specific areas: energy and infrastructure." Here, he looks at stocks poised to benefit. <>"Sav>...

Book value is less than $20 per share. First Solar produces solar cells from thin-film technology and right now has the lowest cost cells per watt which makes them a favorite purchase for utilities taking advantage of government sweetheart incentives (Germany, Spain, etc...). However, while they are currently the low-cost producer, there are some headwinds ahead. 1. Other thin-film producers are ramping-up production, such as Nanosolar and some Chinese producers. While First Solar will likely hold an advantage due to scale, this advantage may not be enough to ward off price compet...

Filed under: Trina Solar ADS (TSL), Suntech Power Hldgs ADS (STP), Stocks to Buy, Green Stocks, Obama Picks President-elect Barack Obama has often repeated his stance on alternative energy. He plans to spend $150 billion over 10 years on alternative energy, not only as part of his energy independence plan, but also in order to help clean the environment, and perhaps most important of all, to create 5 million new jobs.
With Obama winning in the polls, it is no wonder that on Tuesday solar stock prices soared: SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ: SPWRA) finished the day up 14.6%, Suntech Power (NYSE...

This will be my third time published here (but my 4th time with my actual trading account) that I will play the movement of FSLR. It should bounce off the $245.00 level and proceed up to the $280.00 level within the next 10 trading days. If the 280+ level is maintained for more than 4 consecutive trading days and there is a solid bounce off of the 50 day SMA I will only close out half my position and hold on for the next upswing. I am allowing for a maximum loss of $7.00/share on this one. If it can break down to and through $240 I will close out the trade and wait for a further< />< />< />< />...

"Sometimes you have to go out on a limb because that's where the fruit is," says Josh Wolfe, adding, "In the words of renowned investor Shelby Davis, 'You make most of your money in a bear market. You just don't realize it at the time.'"
In The Forbes/Wolfe Emerging Tech Report he states, "Now is a good time to take stock of our portfolio." In doing so, he highlights First Solar (NASDAQ: FSLR), which maintains its buy rating in his long-term model portfolio. Here's his review. <>"When the stock market tumbles, investors tend to react in one of two ways: Either they panic and sell their stake>...

Basically the exact opposite of the previous FSLR trade I posted which saw gains from 246.00 / share through to 281.00 in a long position. This took place over about a week and the reversal at the top has started so I am taking up a position for a 1 week short play down to the 250.00 closeout mark, for $20.00 + profit per share. It will have similar risk-reward setups to the previous trade (obviously within the short context), so if you're interested in a layout of where I set my stops and price points as well as sliding risk management, have a read at my previous FSLR post...

Many things happening now are boosting the outlook for solar stocks in the energy industry. High oil pricing due to strong demand worldwide also places solar as the front-runner among renewable energies. US presidential candidates Barack Obama and John Mccain's strongly support solar and wind energy, making this sector very attractive for investment no matter who wins. There are two companies in this sector investors should expect strong earnings from for this quarter: First Solar (FSLR) and Solarfun Power Holdings (SOLF). <>First Solar is the leader in this sector.
