Gilat Satellite Reportedly In Talks To Buy Airspan

Gilat Satellite Networks (GILT) is in preliminary talks to acquire WiMax equipment maker Airspan (AIRN.PK), according to the Israeli business newspaper Globes. The story said the talks are at a very early stage. Pink-sheet listed Airspan, which has a market cap of just $5 million, competes with Alvarion (ALVR).

Gilat Satellite Networks (GILT) this morning said it has terminated an agreement to sell the company to a consortium or private equity buyers for $11.40 a share. That should not be a big surprise; Gilat had previously said that the consortium had refused to close the deal on previously agreed to terms. The buyout group included Gores Group, Mivtach Shamir Holdings Ltd., companies affiliated with Roy Ben-Yami, Ami Lustig and Eytan Stibbe and DGB Investments, a company affiliated with Doug Bergeron. <>Gilat says the original agreement calls for the proposed buyers to pay a termination fee of $47....
