Gold is a great hedge and as the threat of inflation starts to be more on people's mind I think gold will become more critical. Of course with the market doing so well who wants to invest in Gold :-)?

Everybody seems to know that dollar is under pressure and doom day is coming so on and so forth, then why isn't the dollar tanking or Gold hitting highs? Can't argue with the price action. I am not so sure if GLD is such a great investment right now. Will change my ranking if things change

The ETF Innovators Highly Defensive Index contains 32 market cap leading companies from the defensive industry groups (A-K) specified below in addition to one position reserved for the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) as a hedge against long-term inflation and global currency devaluation. Since I last wrote about the index two months ago, Genentech has been acquired by Roche (RHHBY.PK) and the number of securities has been reduced from 40 to 33. India Potentially Considering Buying the Other Half of the IMF's 400 Tons of Gold (GLD) for Sale
Early this month it was revealed that India, not China, had surpisingly been the buyer for half of the International Montary Fund's 400 tons of gold for sale. Not only was that event a bit of a shock, but since China missed out on the first batch, it was assumed that SURELY they would get the second 200 tons for sale. But it appears India might want that batch as well! India has already made a mint (pun intended) on their first IMF purchase... <><>Gold climbed to the highest price ever (nominal, not real!), capping the longest rally in 27 years, as the dollar’s slump deepened and <><>on a rep>>>>...

Random Thoughts, Thanksgiving Eve 2009
<>Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the US, markets will be closed and reopen for Friday. Trading is likely to be light the rest of this week. So what follows are random thoughts, in no particular order. Some contradict each other -- but that's the way it goes when we're in the fog of war.
- This bear market has likely NOT seen its lows. Stocks have yet to see normal bear markers of single-digit P/E ratios and fat yields. Why? Because of the unprecedented money-pumping done by the US Fed as well as central banks around the globe. This can't go on forever.

John Paulson Set to Launch Gold (GLD) Hedge Fund
I keep looking for something that marks at least an intermediate term top in gold, i.e. a "magazine cover" indicator aka when everyone is on the same side of the trade and even your barber starts talking up gold stocks. This doesn't mean the thesis is not correct in the long run, but let's keep an eye out.
<>The latest bit of "piling on" in the gold trade is infamous hedge fund manager John Paulson - who already holds enormous amounts of gold in his main fund (over 8% of the entire SPRD Gold Shares (GLD) ETF!) - opening a gold specific hedge fund, partially just to find a place to protect>...

Risk Assets And Other Greenback Fun
Yves Smith from Naked Capitalism had a particularly meaty post earlier in the week about the current affairs of the US dollar. Of most interest was the following one-liner;
But one difference this time is now the dollar, rather than the yen, looks like the best funding currency, and the dollar is a deeper market, so the scale of potential damage is much greater.
The size of currencies has come up a couple of times during this event in terms of certain countries (like Iceland and Switzerland) simply not being big enough to bail out their banks if they needed to. This context though is new, to ...
