This company is significantly undervalued. The summaries of the second quarter earnings are fundamentally incorrect. I listened to the corning 2nd quarter conference call. It was very interesting. I've been reading the summaries of the call at various financial sites: "corning had a good second quarter, but outlook for Q3-4 is modest" and "LCD TV sales will be impacted by the economy". "Associated Press: Corning 2Q profit jumps on gain; outlook is weak". I listened to the earnings conference call. At no time did Corning lower there 3Q or full year guidance. Coming off a rough bottom. Lots of support here and I expect it to rise slowly. I'm also impressed by its ability to not follow the market, or even its sector, much at all. That'll prove valuable in times like this.

Corning (GLW) this morning posted better-than-expected Q3 financial results. For the quarter, the LCD glass producer reported revenue of $1.5 billion and profits before special items of 42 cents a share, ahead of the Street at $1.42 billion and 39 cents. Corning (GLW) this morning said it suffered a power disruption over the weekend at its LCD glass manufacturing facility in Taichung, Taiwan which affected some glass-making operations. Corning said the disruption “is expected to have a material impact” on Q4 glass volumes. The company said the power disruption caused the shutdown of several glass melting tanks. The company said it now thinks Q4 glass volumes could be flat to down slightly sequentially; previously, the company had expected glass volumes to be up as much as 5% from Q3. LG Display (LPL) shares are down sharply today amid ongoing concerns about the near-term outlook for the LCD panel sector. The worries about LPL have spilled over into other plays in the sector, pressuring shares of both AU Optronics (AUO) and Corning (GLW).
