IMAX: Bull or Bear?
'Dark Knight' Brings IMAX's Potential to Light

Analysts are watching to see if ‘The Dark Knight’ can break the opening weekend box office record set by Spiderman of $152 million. Investors should be paying particular attention to IMAX (IMAX) ticket sales. Six of "The Dark Knight's" sequences, including its three biggest action set pieces, were filmed using IMAX cameras. Unparalleled for the clarity and resolution of their images, this is the first time the cameras have been used for a make-believe Hollywood movie. <>Director Christopher Nolan said, "When you see these sequences on the IMAX screen, it creates a very, very immersive, ver>...

<>While it's true the movie summer session has already produced incredible box office successes with Iron Man and Indiana Jones, the epitome of cinema-fare is yet to come, in the shape of the cape and cowl. By all early accounts Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (the sequel to the excellent Batman Begins film) is surpassing even its most lofty cinematic expectations.
Oscar talk for a comic book movie? This genre of filmdom typically rates from the very good (X-Men 2, Spider Man 2, Begins, Iron Man...) to the downright awful (Elektra, Daredevil, Spiderman 3...), but for a movie about a man dr>...

Aside from the current fundamentals think about IMAX from the eyes of a consumer. I remember IMAX as a kid being this huge movie screen I got to see when I went on a field trip to the museum. I now have the opportunity to see blockbuster films on the same screen or pay a buck more and see the digital version of the film (i.e. better picture, better sound). This is what drew me to IMAX in the first place. Looking at the numbers currently...they are not so hot...but in my opinion this is a company with a lot of potential and well worth the risk involved.

IMAX. Does the company even need a description? With instant name recognition it goes without saying that they make, sell and lease the projection system which delivers larger than life movies. But the company has left investors scared, shaken and sleep deprived...and it isn't because of a recent horror movie they saw in IMAX. Its share price hasn't exactly been larger than life. With a 52 week high of $11, and a current trading price of $4, two huge price drops have burned those holding stock. Recent activity has brought some life to share price though, as buyout rumors brought it up...

Ha... I blew this one with my last pick.
That being said, no new idea works like an old idea. Imax had ditched the sad plan of selling out. Set some money on this short term in preparation for the following:
Last quarter they did not close a single deal. Mostly, I think, because they were focused on selling the business and not doing business. They will have a lot of hanging deals that get closed this quarter, this will make it look like a major improvement in their business. (not really)
Management will want to show the world that they are now "serious" about the prospects of the compan...

The Imax system has proven itself. Each opening is a success as lines of people wait to get in. Without a change in this sector (format wise) in many, many years, is IMAX the next and only logical change? I'm not Bullish on the management running this company, but the technology is awesome! I hope the shareholders and board members relize the need for a management change to take this company to the next level.

I think this one is going up long term. People don't go to the movies anymore because there is little to differentiate the quality from a home theater. Add in screaming kids, cell phones and missing the show while you go to the bathroom and you can see why home theaters are taking off.
Imax does offer a big differentiation however... This is an experience that I cannot get at home. If movie theaters have a future, it will be by investing in technologies like Imax and digital distribution. I got in a little higher than here, but I have no fear of real losses.
