Sun’s shares had slumped to a new post-bubble low at the end of last week as investors grew concerned that the worsening economic outlook, and turmoil in the financial services industry where Sun makes many of its sales, would further hold back any recovery at the troubled maker of servers and storage equipment, meanwhile the stock fall nearly 20 per cent in a week. According to Sun's chief executive officer Jonathan Schwartz the company is expected to report revenues for the quarter of $3.725-3.8bn, a slight decline from the $3.835bn of a year before, with pro-forma earnings per s...

I am quite surprised to see Sun Microsystems lying pretty low. This should qualify as a good contrary bet in the stock markets. I have always been impressed a lot by the ability of Sun Microsystems to grow as a company. I understand that some of the core businesses of this company aren't doing very well and that there is increasing competition but that is no reason for the stock to be beaten down completely. This is a classic case of the stock markets and the depressed sentiment in the markets beating down a stock below its intrinsic value. I see a 40-50% upside in this stock in the next on...

Closing Bell: What sell-off? (AIG, ABK, EPR, MBI, JAVA, ORCL, ERTS)
Filed under: Amer Intl Group (AIG), Sun Microsystems (JAVA), Electronic Arts (ERTS), MBIA Inc (MBI) We had another bit of data showing strong home sales in Q3, but as prices fell. Yet the only real thing to note was that the sell-off that was starting out this morning just didn't hold when you look at the broad indexes today. Some dollar directional changes may be part of the issue that kept the stocks from getting cheaper. There were still many losers on the day.
Here were today's unofficial closing bell levels:

Oracle -- Political Problems In Europe
|
Oracle (ORCL) and Sun Micro (JAVA) seem to have regulatory difficulty with the European Community. The two supposedly US based companies are causing concern in Brussels. Oracle has retorted that the issues that are concerning the Europeans are not concerning Washington DC regulators. So what’s the problem?
This smells of politics and power grabs. The Europeans want to increase their stature and become more of a factor. SAP (SAP)which is European based constantly knocks heads with Oracle. By throwing some sticks and stones at Oracle the European regulator is protecting their home team. SAP ...
