Yesterday, I took note of the rally in the tracking stocks tied to John Malone’s Liberty Media (LINTA, LMDIA, LCAPA) empire; in particular, Liberty Media Interactive shares jumped 34%, for no obvious reason.

What’s Up With Liberty Media Interactive?

Liberty Media Interactive (LINTA) shares are on fire today, for no obvious reason I can find.

Liberty Media Interactive is a tracking stock for a group of investor John Malone’s holdings in a variety of retail and Internet properties. LINTA operates the TV shopping channel QVC, and holds stakes in a variety of companies, including IAC/Interactive (IACI) and its various spinoffs.

I find no news, research or rumors on the company; but the shares are certainly having a big move: LINTA today is up $1.32, or 33.3%, to $5.28.

    Sirius Lives! Stock Soars As Liberty Media Takes Stake

    Sirius XM (SIRI) looked over the abyss, but lives to fight another day.

    Teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, Sirius has been rescued by John Malone’s Liberty Media Corp. (LMDIA). Sirius announced this morning that Liberty will invest $530 million in Sirius in the form of loans and in return will receive a 40% equity interest in the company.
