This stock has reached a 2-year high of $140 and a low of about $1.80. It is trading around $11-12 dollars currently. I recommend picking up shares because this industry and company are fine. Debt arrangements have been amended which significantly lessens the chance of any bankruptcy. Additionally, too much state revenue at stake to let good casinos go bad. Just came out with earnings and actually showed a profit during this economy that we're in. Good brand recognition. I think the fair value of this company is between $30-$40 dollars and I will sell if it reaches somewhere in that ...

This stock will retrace to at least 58 by end of month. Too much cash output in Macau has temporarily deprerssed earnings.....the "house" will definitely recover!

After listening to the most recent LVS and WYNN conference calls, it is apparent that WYNN is doing a better job in this space. LVS has a lot of LT debt, negative earnings the previous quarter (not expecting this quarter to be any better), and Vegas has been looking bad from the economy. Macau seems to be doing well, but the Chinese gov't has thrown some curve-balls, limiting the casino companies from expansion and limiting the amount of floor space to be used for gambling. Not one of the stocks I'd want to be in.

The Analysis below is summarized from Notable Calls's Article on Seeking Alpha on June 12, 2008: <> Deutsche Bank is out with a wonderful (and Actionable) call on Casino stocks noting the sector has been hit hard as of late, with large cap names such as Las Vegas Sands ( LVS ), MGM Mirage ( MGM ), and Wynn Resorts ( WYNN ) down 25% on average since oil prices spiked ~3.5 months ago. A confluence of factors has worked in concert to drive casino stocks lower primarily stemming from an inflection in oil prices (underscoring concerns about the cost of transport to casin>...

Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Sets Hong Kong Macau IPO Range of $2.5B to $3.3B

I was struck in much of my reading of the G20 meeting this weekend, especially in the UK papers, on how the central bankers actions - specifically in the US and US-mini me (UK) - are specifically TO inflate assets. So while we mock it, it seems to be an implicit strategy... the idea is increased asset prices flood into all other parts of the economy. Sort of how the US economy was run the past 6-7 years using housing as a prop (house ATM) for spending. I can see the logic in it, while disagreeing with purposeful manipulation of values to create a false sense of prosperity. Las Vegas Sands Geo-Politcal Risk Issues
|
Las Vegas Sands (LVS) had their conference call and talked at length about Macau and how it will be a winner as the market develops and the gambling market grows. They keep mentioning that they cannot talk about the Hong Kong listing but then they tease and claim to expect good things. Talk about a conflict.
OK here is the problem. China has 1.3 billion people. If as and when their economy continues to grow there will be gambling. But why will the gambler want to go all the way to Macau? Why would Beijing want the cold hard cash to leave their economy? How will they compete with new to be de...

Las Vegas Sands (LVS) is our one truly speculative fare in the portfolio - after sitting on the precipice of potential default banks swooped in [Apr 22, 2009: Wynn Resorts, Las Vegas Sands Amend Credit Terms] and helped both LVS and MGM Mirage (MGM) live despite yawning debt loads. Las Vegas casinos was actually a group I was targeting 2 years ago as one of our canary in the coal mines when CNBC pundits and government officials were denying a recession was possible - while we were saying the house ATM driven, conspicuous consumption era was about to hit the wall. Filed under: International markets, China, Newsletters, Las Vegas Sands (LVS), Stocks to Buy "Highly leveraged casinos were among the first to be locked out of credit markets last year," says Elliott Gue, noting that one company that suffered greatly from credit conditions was Las Vegas Sands (NYSE: LVS). Now, however, he see "strong propsects" for a recovery in the casino operator's future; he is particularly optimistic on the firm's Asian projects. Here's his review from Personal Finance. <>"The economic downturn meant consumers reined in spending on leisure travel and gambling. Meanwhile, de>...
