Macy's: Indomitable, Iconic Retailer

Filed under: Stocks to Buy Iconic, battle-honed retailer Macy's Inc. (M), first discussed here on June 17, 2009, at a price of $11.23, has pulled back slightly to about $23 after a better-than-decent run-up in 2010. But just view that dip as an opportunity to scoop up shares of a preferred company.
Further, the modifier "battle-honed" has been used because "Big M" has survived the worst U.S. economic contraction since the Great Depression, a downturn that hammered the retail sector.
Macy's should post a FY2012 same-store sales increase of 3% to 4%, followed by a similar rise in FY2013. <><>Con>>...

Although the housing market has not recovered fully yet, consumer spending looks good and has been solid for several months now. The economic data my be mixed a little, but my technical analysis says that this is a good buy and it's showing a promising up trend, which should hold for a few months at the very least. Although this is a good buy, enter carefully with a small percentage of your portfolio.

Macy's: Considerable potential, almost as much risk

Filed under: Stocks to Buy Readers of this space know that the retail sector/apparel is best avoided: the era of the frugal consumer and a surplus of store chains has led to challenging conditions for retailers, to say the least.
However, there are exceptions, and Macy's (NYSE: M) is one. The argument here is that Macy's will be able to combine right-sizing of its chain and rigorous cost cuts with established brands (the Macy's chain also runs the upscale Bloomingdale's chain) to survive the downturn. Wall Street doesn't expect any improvement near-term, forecasting a 6-10% revenue decline f...

Macy's has had too many losses this quarter on y-o-y growth which was just the way GAP also headed 2-3 years back and Circuit City just before. Time to sink these plebians and get on a new horse. Did anyone bother to look at the itemized April retail sales data yesterday morning before they went to work? Or did everyone just jump on the headline figure, which showed a broad-based decline on the month of 0.4% vs. 0.1% expected? (That disappointment sent the Dow Jones plunging nearly 200 points during the day.) Retail sales data comprises a vast range of goods, from Nintendo (NTDOY.PK...
