In an economy like this, is anyone going to the game?

Yes -- but Pittsburgh people will stay in their cars (hotels are too expensive), and the Arizona people will stay in foreclosed houses (so they should feel right at home).

Speaking of hotels -- short 'em.

I received an e-mail from the Mirage in Las Vegas to come out to watch the Super Bowl for $69 a night.

Last time I was there for the Super Bowl, maybe 15 years ago, it was about $400 a night.

Storm clouds are milling over MGM Mirage (MGM). The stock is down 41% over the last 100 days (see askstockguru.com). Standard & Poor's Ratings Services reduced its rating on the stock down to "stable" from the earlier "positive" rating<!----> (see forbes.com). Its recent earnings call disclosed that the company earned 40 cents a share for the recent quarter -- 4 cents short of analysts estimates and 17 cents short YOY.

But I'm bullish.

A Gordian knot of interests tie together the gaming markets of Las Vegas, Macau and future sites for development. A couple of these strands threaten MGM Mirage (NYSE:MGM)'s expansion plans.

One end of the knot is in Macau. Billionaire Stanley Ho was in on the ground floor of development there, at one time owning more than three-fourths of all the casinos. His share has dropped substantially with the influx of new developers, including the Las Vegas Sands (NYSE:LVS) and Wynn Resorts, Ltd (NASDAQ:WYNN).

Fundamental Analysis:-

No company in the casino industry has as high quality names in Las Vegas as MGM Mirage. Listen to this asset list: Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Treasure Island and Mirage. All Las Vegas staples that epitomize high class in Las Vegas. Las Vegas was very strong for MGM as with Harrah’s but I like the pipeline MGM is building in Vegas and abroad...

...At a current P/E of under 24 and Macau set to come online within a year MGM it is a good time to buy MGM.

Another month has passed and another round of Mayor’s picks has arrived. The news on the market right now is all about mergers and acquisitions. Some stocks will benefit others will suffer after making dumb moves. Overall it drives the market up (although artificially) and creates good gains for savvy investors. I’m still high on casino stocks but I see the high side coming soon after Harrah’s takes a buyout. Airlines are still on the comeback and retailers like Walmart are in the dumps. So here’s the results from the last 4 months along with my newest picks.
