Manitowoc: Cyclical Bottom, Building a Higher Future
Historical Perspective
Manitowoc (MTW), as the dominant manufacturer of building cranes, has long been considered a cyclical company. In recent times, the company has been working to reduce the cyclicality of their business. They divested their legacy Manitowoc Marine business and greatly expanded their Manitowoc’s Foodservice business with the acquisition of Enodis. Originally they were only on the cold side of foodservice, offering ice machines, walk-in coolers, etc. With the purchase of Enodis, they have expanded to the hot side as well offering ovens, steamers, fryers, etc.

Is KHD Humboldt Wedag the Ultimate Emerging Market Value Play?
<>Until this article at Realmoney.com, I'd never heard of KHD Humboldt Wedag (KHD). KHD owns companies that operate internationally in the industrial plant engineering and equipment supply industry, and specializes in the cement processing industries. They have a negative enterprise value meaning that cash in the bank outnumbers the market cap. This is a pretty rare situation especially considering they are basically a emerging markets play with 95% of their backlog in Russia, Eastern Europe, Asia (mainly India), and the Middle East.

Options Update: Eagle Bulk Shipping and Manitowoc volatility low

Eagle Bulk Shipping (NASDAQ: EGLE) closed at $5.27. EGLE October call option implied volatility closed at 65, puts at 71; below its 26-week average of 114, according to Track Data, suggesting decreasing price risk.

Manitowoc (NYSE: MTW) closed at $6.76. MTW, a provider of lifting equipment, will participate in the Morgan Stanly Global Industrials Unplugged Conference on September 1. MTW September option implied volatility is at 70, October is at 73; below its 26-week average of 99, according to Track Data, suggesting decreasing price movement.

Catepillar (CAT) looks like a cheap stock but...

At $30, Catepillar is an accidently high yielder (5% dividend) but this segment is declining like crazy. 20,000 job cuts at CAT with $21 billion in debt (it's market cap is only $18 billion!), I would stay away but historically the company has always been run with high debt. -Financials.
