  • Internet bandwidth acceleration firm Limelight Networks (LLNW) saw its shares rise 5% in after-hours trading to $2.28 after the company reported third quarter sales and profit for the period ended September 30 that beat estimates. Sales rose 9% from the prior quarter and 18% year over year to $33.1 million, ahead of an average estimate of $31.5 million, and a net loss of 1 cent per share beat expectations for a net loss of 3 cents. The stock had fallen about 5% during the regular session.

    Macrovision’s Take For TV Guide: A Single Dollar

    Well, this would explain why they didn’t want to disclose the price.

    In an filing with the SEC, Macrovision (MVSN) disclosed the price tag for the sale of TV Guide to OpenGate Capital, and it’s a stunner: a single dollar, along with the assumption of liabilities. (Like the need to fulfill current subscriptions.) Macrovision even agreed to provide the buyer with a loan of up to $9.5 million.

    So, again:

    • Cost to buy one issue: $2.99.
    • Cost to buy entire 7-figure circulation magazine: $1.

    Macrovision Sells TV Guide To Private Equity Firm

    Macrovision (MVSN) this afternoon announced that it has sold TV Guide magazine, still one of the highest circulation magazines in the country, to private equity firm OpenGate Capital. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company said it will not book a gain or a loss on the sale.

    It sure would be interesting to know what they paid; care to guess?

    DVD Piracy Is Unbelievably Bad, Says Unbelievable Study (MVSN)

    Here's a shocking stat, courtesy of a UK research firm called Futuresource Consulting: Everyone you know is spending all of their time illegally copying DVDs. Futuresource's "white paper", released yesterday and now being widely cited around the Web, says that one-third of all UK and US residents have copied pre-recorded DVDs in the last six months.
