Canaccord Adams analyst Richard Baldry today cut his ratings on three players in the software as a service group, dropping Blackboard (BBBB) and NetSuite (N) to Hold from Buy, while cutting SuccessFactors (SFSF) to Sell from Hold.

Baldry writes that “after a strong rebound from recent lows” for most companies in the group, there is now “an increasing risk of near-term downside valuation pressure” as pre-announcement season approaches. He thinks Q1 results could be challenging for some of the companies, and he sees risks as well in Q2 guidance.

Yesterday’s rumors about a potential acquisition by Oracle (ORCL) of Red Hat (RHT) have apparently faded, but Larry Ellison’s appetite for doing deals is never sated. Whether or not Oracle decides to take a run at Red Hat, it is not going out on a limb to suggest that at some point Ellison is going to get the itch and make more acquisitions.
