The 9 is a solid video game company that was hit hard last week by an earnings miss. A $50 million share buyback approval was just announced today signaling management's solid belief that its current stock price does not reflect its true value.

The 9 is a very well-known video game company that has done a great job of licensing, implementing, and managing the world-famous World of Warcraft in China. They have reaped massive profits from this highly addictive country-wide phenomenon but have until recently been much too dependent on this source of revenue (over 90%). A whole slew of highly anticipated games will be deployed in near future and will help increase + diversify this company's sources of revenue. The 9 has very strong partnerships with well known game developers such as NCSoft, HanbitSoft, and Electronic Arts ...

In addition, the company has licenses to operate other games, such as Granado Espada, SUN, Guild Wars, Joyful Journey West, and Hellgate: London, an action role playing game.
Well we should have all bought this back in October, but i think with the new WoW expansion coming out this is a good buy for a midterm holding. U< />< />< />< />< />< />...

World of Warcraft Expansion

With The Burning Crusade expansion being released in 5 days, and Blizzard having over 8 million subscribers (individual accounts) from World of Warcraft alone, one can expect a huge resurgence in membership as players who had hit level 60 and run out of things to do now have tons of new content available to them. With The9 making much of its profits from this game alone, the World of Warcraft expansion should serve as a major catalyst in driving this company's profits upwards.

NetEase Slides: China Agency Rejects World of Warcraft

As several analysts note this morning, China’s General Administration of Press and Publication (known as GAPP) has rejected an application from NetEase (NTES) seeking approval for World of Warcraft. The review process is now officially terminated. Goldman Sachs analyst Richard Ji notes that the company is required to stop the commercialization of WoW in China, and to end registration of new accounts immediately. Last month, GAPP moved to tighten the rules on a ban in China on foreign content in video games; and of course, WoW is a property controlled by Activision Blizzard (ATVI). <>Ji notes >...

China Restricts Online Game Industry

Protectionism is alive and well and the Chinese government is tightening pressure on foreign investment. Most recently the country’s lucrative online gaming industry is seeing tougher regulations aimed at protecting local gaming companies who are finding it difficult to compete with larger players. <>On Saturday, the China regulatory body, the General Administration of Press and Publication issued an announcement which bans foreign investors from participating in profits from the country’s online gaming business. Another my stockcharts include some my own marks as I do programming parameters, skip them and look at only wave structure as impulses are marked. Note also big picture that wave 3 and 4 has not overlapped each other against of ewi guideline, even they really came this close and wave alternate would be close if overlapping would come as case. However, I see it as even more supportive investment opportunity entry set.

Sprott's Peter Hodson Likes Gravity
Well-regarded fund manager Peter Hodson of Sprott Asset Management presented a compelling investment case for Gravity Co. (GRVY) in an interview with Canada's Business News Network on August 6th. Hodson's argument is in line with the thesis presented in a recent issue of Downside Protection Report. <>Gravity is a Korean software company, developing massively multiplayer online role-playing games ((MMORPG)). Despite the company's recent profitability inflection point, the shares continue to trade roughly in line with net cash and investments. While the shares have appreciated considerably this>...

Guitar Hero, World Of Warcraft, Call Of Duty Still Crushing It
Activision Blizzard (ATVI) issued a surprise announcement this morning, saying Q1 sales were "tracking ahead" of February guidance.
The company said it saw continued strong performance from three core franchises: Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, and World of Warcraft. Activision also confirmed yesterday's report it replaced The9 (NCTY) with NetEase (NTES) to distribute WoW in China. Lazard's Colin Sebastian said "expect AB to receive a higher revenue share under the new deal" in a note to investors. But China still makes up less than 10% of Activision's Warcraft revenue. <>Shares in ATVI were up about>...
