NE's financials compare favorably with other drillers, for e.g. RIG. It has been a volatile time recently in Energy stocks, but after NE reported earnings, it seems that investors are finally understanding that NE's revenues are not tied to the price of oil on a given day. NE has contracts spanning months and years out; just because the price of oil has dropped recently does not mean there is no need to drill for it.

Fundamentally we know that the world thirst for oil is going up. It will continue to go up in the future because the strongly growing economies of India and China will drive that price up.
An earlier Seeking Alpha article noted that India and China both consume less than 2 barrels of oil per person per year. The U.S. consumes approximately 26. The Western European countries and other developed countries consume 13-15 barrels per person per year.

The offshore rig rental business has a positive five year picture; even if oil prices come down, $80 to $100 oil will still justify spending on this expensive form of oil drilling. With only a few companies w/ the offshore rigs to rent and the expertise to run them (NE, RIG, DO, ESV), the picture for this subset of oil services is very positive. However, please note that over the next couple of years, the Gulf of Mexico and the North sea may be less profitable areas when compared to Latin America and the Middle East. The two best companies are NE (best run) and RIG (largest). < />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />< />...
