China Moves To Ban Foreign Video Games; NTES, ATVI Slide

The video gaming sector is grappling with China’s new, stricter interpretation of a ban on the involvement of foreign companies in the sector in China. In particular, the move could force Netease (NTES) to take its version of World of Warcraft offline, according to research firm Wedge MKI. That would also have negative implications for Activision (ATVI), which licenses the game to Netease.

Should of went with my brain and shorted Netease.com (NTES) when I noted the "non reaction" to the news of the Chinese government regulation:

On a sidenote - unless I am reading this iniative wrong Netease (NTES) should take a much bigger hit since it has licensed World of Warcraft, but it is only down 2%. Hmm...


The stock is now down almost 8% and we could of made a very quick 6% in just 2 hours. Bummer.
