Operating Income: $1.42 billion, up 24% y/y, driven by movies, cable. Up 35% from last quarter.
Earnings: $832 million, up 1.2% from last year. Up 13.6% from last quarter.
EPS of 27 cents misses consensus by a penny.
Guidance: Up. Raising operating income growth projection for FY 2008 to from "low teens" to "mid teens".

No major aquisitiions planned - Yahoo, Time-Warner, etc.

This is a well run company and a very cheap stock. Best forward p/e in its sector and just launched a new business channel. If people like the channel - especially the analyst people - the stock will climb to 30+ by second quarter earnings 08. Vulnerable to a soft advertising market but all in all worth the risk.

Rupert Murdoch (NYSE:NWS)does some serious backroom negotiating with the Bancrofts (NYSE:DJ). We are led to believe that editorial integrity is the key issue. In the last 24 hours reports of a competing offer from General Electric (NYSE:GE) and Pearson PLC which may include the Bancrofts have been been grabbing public attention.

These breathless headlines lead us to believe its because the Bancrofts get to stay in the game in some way. (Is this really important to anyone other than the Bancrofts. They will not be able to keep up with additional capital requirements anyway.)
