With Oracle's recent purchase of Sun Microsystems for net $5.7bn or so, it gains all the software and systems ingredients it needs to begin delivering new database appliances, storage appliances and network appliances. Through 2010 and beyond, expect the market for appliances (specialized boxes that do a job better than a PC+software could) explode. Larry is also an expert at removing costs, and a "right-sized" Sun could deliver huge upside in the right hands.

The company said its fiscal third-quarter net income fell slightly to $1.33 billion, or 26 cents a share, from $1.34 billion, or 26 cents a share, a year earlier. Excluding special items, earnings would've been 35 cents a share. Revenue for the period rose 2% to $5.45 billion. Not bad for lean season. DHS hasn't put any heavy weight in costs either but we'lll have to watch out for that again

As an enterprise vendor of choice, ORCL definitely has a future however, DHS mandates and the touted nextgen technology adoption rollouts or for that matter any significant new business is likely to be delayed.

JDA bulks up with I2
Filed under: Deals, Oracle Corp (ORCL) As companies try to find ways to cut costs, one popular approach is to leverage software. And an area that is getting lots of traction is supply chain management. Hey, it's worked for companies like Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT), right?
A leader in the supply chain software space is JDA Software (NASDAQ: JDAS). Well, now the company is going to get bigger; that is, it will purchase i2 Technologies (NASDAQ: ITWO) for $396 million. In fact, the deal will make JDA the world's largest player in the supply chain space.Continue reading JDA bulks up with I2 <><>JDA bulks up >>...

Oracle (ORCL) is “braced” for a formal objection from the EU of its planned $7.4 billion acquisition of Sun Microsystems (JAVA), the Financial Times reports. Oracle has refused to offer any concessions, the FT says, citing “one person close to the process.” The result, the story says, is that European regulators are close to issuing an official statement of objections, the first step on a road to blocking the deal. <><>As the FT notes, the European Commission last blocked a U.S. merger when it objected to a proposed acquisition of Honeywell by General Electric in 2001. Nasdaq Market Wrap 1 November

The 60-minute trend is down according to the force index indicator. %b has printed a slightly positive divergence. Finally prices have moved quickly to the downside. The Nasdaq is underperforming the Dow and the S&P. In fact, the breakout of the rising trendline has already occurred. On Thursday prices retested the trendline and Friday accelerated to the downsode quite impressively. Support at 1650. Then 1590. Prices are now testing the lower trendline of a channel that prices are forming. I would expect overall a negative week. Many stocks have printed new 20-day low. I remain negative on...
