Enzon (ENZN) achieved break-even earnings during the third quarter of 2009, better than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of loss of 7 cents but below the year-ago earnings of 1 cent. The company reported revenues of $44.6 million, a decline of 9% compared to $48.8 million reported in the third quarter of 2008.
Enzon records revenues from three sources -- products, royalties and contract manufacturing. The three segments recorded a decline of 1%, 6% and 56%, respectively, compared to the year-ago period.

The spreading Galleon Group insider trading scandal has begun causing problems for some stocks in which the hedge fund operator has large holdings, the Wall Street Journal notes. The Journal notes that investors have sought to withdraw $1.3 billion of the $3.7 billion in assets managed by the hedge fund group. The WSJ also noted that two large brokerage firms - Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Barclays - have told Galleon they will no longer trade with the firm. I personally don't think it will happen, but there are a few companies that could be interested. OSI Pharmaceutical (OSIP) and Roche subsidiary Genentech (DNA) announced that a pivotal Phase III study of Tarceva met a key secondary endpoint of extending overall survival in patients with advanced lung cancer who received the drug immediately after initial chemotherapy.
