I came to familiarize myself of Palm upon the announcement of the Palm Pre in January 2009, it was marvelous to see such a unique OS design on a cell phone. I am confident that Palm will continue growth based on the expansion of this OS onto multiple cell phones and network. Starting in January, when the Pre is rumored to launch on Verizon and ATT, and additionally the Pixi launch in November 17th. I believe, these products will enhance Palm's market share against their competitors.

Palm: A high risk/high reward smartphone play that's not for the squeamish
PALM

Filed under: Palm Inc (PALM), Stocks to Buy Palm Inc. (NASDAQ: PALM) is one company whose fundamentals are making one statement, while the stock chart's technical indicators are arguing something entirely different.
A late roll-out of the Palm Pre with new carriers has sparked concerned about disappointing Palm results in the quarters ahead, and particularly during the upcoming holiday season. Moreover, any hint that FY2010 revenue growth that will not exceed a 100% gain will likely send PALM's shares tumbling.<><>Continue reading <>Palm: A high risk/high reward smartphone play that's not for the s>>>...

I don't think the Palm Pre cracked the iPhone ice. It has about as much earning potential as Twitter compared with Google. The share prices recently have emasculated traders. Well I think they can rest easy now, a stock that hasn't seen a lot of short activity is seeing a LOT of put activity, indicating that people have lost their zest for this flavor-of-the-month.

While the new Palm phone looks impressive initially, it still can't save Palm from the fate of being crushed in a competitive market of much bigger players. 1st issue: an exclusive agreement with Sprint, a carrier in trouble with dropping market share and quality issues (a recent Consumer Reports article reported them consistently below other carriers in call quality). 2nd issue: Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc, all desperately wanting to be in the sector and with loads of cash. 3rd issue: Palm could be bought out, but any buyer will wait for a pullback or bankruptcy. ...

Remaining Neutral on Palm as Company Faces Strong Competition

6/6 - "We are maintaining our Neutral rating...Our estimate of $(0.26) for FY09 (May) compares with the analyst consensus of $(0.21). The highest analyst estimate for FY09 is $0.15, which translates into a P/E multiple of 48x, a fairly high multiple for a stock with a debt-to-capital ratio of 50%. Palm has a relatively large short position of 35 million shares, which probably adds to share price volatility."
"We believe sales of the Palm Centro remain solid at Sprint (S: NR-$9.20), but that sales of the older Treo models, including the Treo 700wx at Verizon (VZ: NR-$38.96) and Sprint, and ...

6/5 - "We expect Palm to report its fiscal Q4:08 results (May 2008) in late June, with revenues of $284 million (5% below consensus) and non-GAAP EPS of ($0.24), 6 pennies below consensus...May will likely be another ugly quarter financially for Palm, but trends should only improve going forward. We believe a very low number of Treos were likely sold into the carrier channel in May as carriers drained legacy Treo inventory ahead of the refresh. We believe Centro growth continued unabated, and that a number of significant product launches are forthcoming."

5/29 - "Palm shares are down 65% since October 07 and down over 75% since April 2006, the Chart is even more depressing...So is there any hope?
Not until 2009 when Palm's new Linux product should hit the market, but by that time Apple's (AAPL) iPhone and RIM's (RIMM) Blackberry will run the planet.
So what hope do you have if you buy PALM shares?
Not much. Maybe someone will buy them, but Carl Icahn already has his money in Motorola (MOT), so that boat has sailed. Who in their right mind would buy Palm?
Nobody."
