We are making two changes in our model portfolios this week.

First, we are going to take advantage of the recent sharp correction in commodity prices to add to all portfolios a 3% position in the iPath Dow Jones-AIG Commodity exchange-traded note (DJP). After reaching a 52-week high of $73.15 on July 2, DJP has dropped 21% to $57.85.

For new investors looking to green their portfolios with clean energy, the first thought is usually mutual funds.  The following three are available in North America:

 

I found some interesting reading over the weekend, and much of it was directed towards the renewable energy. The longish article (The power and the glory | Economist.com - read it all) hypothesized the next boom in investments will be in the energy field, specifically renewables. I found the short history of economic booms to be revealing and I will attempt to give a quick outline here.
